Families In Need Photoed for the Holidays

Help Portrait Berkeley held its annual Berkeley photo shoot Saturday.

Photographers, makeup artists and costumers donated time to provide family portraits for low-income and homeless people in Berkeley over the weekend.

Help Portrait Berkeley held its annual charitable photo shoot at the Berkeley Food and Housing Project Saturday.

"It's quite a wonderful event," said local photographer Barbara Yasuhara, who has served as director of the Berkeley shoot for the past two years.

Help Portrait, started by photographer Jeremy Cowart, is a nonprofit that helps photographers organize events for poor and homeless people to receive free professional portraits over the holidays.

"It's photographers getting together...and just getting together and serving communities in need," Yahuhara said.

The Berkeley Food and Housing Project helps give emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing and other support services to homeless individuals and families.
