Book Launch for Berkeley Memoir Project

A new book born of a memoir-writing project at the Berkeley Public Library will be launched with readings and refreshments at the library Tuesday night.

A new book that grew out of a memoir-writing project at the Berkeley Public Library will be celebrated with a reading and book launch party Tuesday night, July 16.

The book, We Are Here, offers revelations about "the fascinating lives of our Berkeley neighbors, including 'big' stories of escaping Berlin during the Holocaust, fleeing inland to avoid the Japanese-American internment camps, as well as stories of quieter but crucial moments–divorcing, teething, forgiving, and grieving," according to a library notice about the event.

The program, from 6-7:30 p.m. on the 4th floor of the main library at Kittredge Street and Shattuck Avenue, will include "refreshments, time for chatting, and then readings," the library said.

The book grew out of a six-week class led by writer Frances Lefkowitz with funding from the San Francisco Foundation’s Koshland Program.
