A Few Thousand New Berkeleyans Begin the School Year

The academic year kicks off Thursday with Calpalooza. What advice do you have for the class of 2016?

-Bay City News

Thursday marks the start of the academic year at the University of California at Berkeley. Students settled into dorms last weekend, and are opening books and celebrating with "Calpalooza" Thursday afternoon on campus.

Held on Sproul Plaza starting at 3:30 p.m., the annual beginning-of-the-year fair offers information on student groups, organizations and clubs.

Booths will be set up, including by the California Dance Team, the Berkeley International Office, which provides support for foreign students, and Project RISHI, a group that works with rural Indian villages, along with other political, philanthropic, faith, entertainment, environmental, leadership and athletic groups.

The East Bay Express devoted this week's issue to helping new Berkeleyans get up to speed. What advice do you have for this year's crop of freshmen?
