4th Straight Day of Record Highs on Friday
More high-temperature records were broken today in the greater Bay Area, marking the fourth day in a row that new highs were reached in multiple locations.
The mercury again reached heights never recorded before in multiple locations in the greater Bay Area today, Friday.
The National Weather Service reported that record highs for Jan. 17 were broken in five locations, the fourth day in a row that records fell.
The Oakland Museum hit 74 degrees, topping the previous 71-degree mark set in 1991, according to the weather agency.
On Thursday, the 78 degrees recorded in downtown Oakland tied the highest ever recorded for the entire month of January.
On Wednesday, San Francisco airport reached its highest-ever January mark of 73 and then tied it on Thursday.
Thursday also saw the Salinas airport set a new all-January high of 84, up from 80 set in 2009.
Altogether Thursday saw six new records set, and four tied. Ten new records were set on Wednesday, following four records broken on Tuesday.
In other climate news today, Gov. Jerry Brown declared a drought emergency in California, and the Bay Area Quality Management District declared a "Spare the Air" alert for Saturday because of high pollution levels.
In the forecast, the weather service said temperatures are expected to cool somewhat and be closer to season normals by Sunday.
