Berkeley Chess Festival May 18th

Think you can beat an eight-year-old at chess? What about a ten-year-old? On May 18th at Berkeley's Hillside School, guests of the Berkeley Chess School's 5th Annual BCS Chess Festival will have a chance to test their best moves against two National Junior Chess Champions.  The young champs will conduct "simuls", or simultaneous chess games, against multiple opponents. BCS chess instructors and local chess Masters will also be on hand to play simuls at the festival, to be held at Berkeley's Hillside School from 12-5 pm.

The Berkeley Chess School's annual chess festival celebrates all things chess. In addition to simuls, enjoy games of "bughouse" -- a multi-player form of the game with four players and two boards; a chess-themed play performed by BCS students on a life-sized chess board; live music; food and drink; carnival games; face painting; and a silent auction. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children age 12 and under.

>> If your child plays in the K-12 Festival Quad, admission is free!

Proceeds from the festival will go towards securing a permanent home for the Berkeley Chess School. To learn more and register for the event, visit berkeleychessschool.org or call 510-843-0150.

The Berkeley Chess School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization offering chess instruction and regional chess tournaments (including an annual all-girls tournament), winter and summer chess camps; Friday night chess classes in Berkeley, San Ramon, and Walnut Creek, and an advanced chess class on Tuesday nights in Orinda. We also offer chess in the classroom in Title One schools, and have an international chess exchange program.
