Promoting Gender Respect-PGR:
-At its core, this program is about shifts- in the youth, in adult allies, and in the larger community. It’s about shifting the perspectives of the youth in what options they have and empowering them to choose while being accountable to one another and their communities. It’s about shifting the way adults can best support the youth in being youth and how to be accountable to a life’s work of social justice. It’s about shifting the relationship communities have in accepting violence in its many forms to being strong advocates of nonviolence in all aspect of the community.
-Youth participants- will go through the learning experientially and unlock their individual learning through a group process and with the support of adult allies and peers. In bringing their own voices in how they experience violence and manhood, the youth will not only raise their critical awareness with these topics but, by developing their leadership skills, ask them to be change agents in their community.
-Middle School boys will raise awareness on their socialization as men and perpetuating violence. Keywords: Bullying, Teen Dating Violence, Domestic violence, gangs, man box
Facilitators:
-The facilitators will undergo experiential learning that not only builds skills to be youth developers but also in being socially conscious community leaders. They will also be part of a community of adult allies that is willing to challenge and support them in a lifelong work as adult allies and social justice advocates.
