My Great Grandmother( Alta Alice Minor Bates)

My name is Cynthia I am the daughter of late Joanne Cassidy. Alta Bates raised my mother from birth. My mothers mother Peggy Clossen was born in Alta Bates Hospital by an unwed teenage girl and after she gave birth she quietly left the hospital and left her new born daughter there in the hospital. Never to be heard from again. Alta Bates , fell in love with this baby girl and decided to adopt her. Now back in those days a single woman  had never tried to adopt a child alone ,but my grandmother did and after she was told no many times ,she finally got a yes. She took her home ,named her Peggy . Alta Bates lived right across the street from the hospital with her brother Louie. Louie had never gotten married either so he was home a lot. Alta hired a nanny to help care for her new daughter. years went by and Peggy became a teenager herself and fell in love with a boy and she herself became pregnant . But unfortunately she never married so my grandmother decided to raise my mother also. Alta Bates was the perfect mother my mother told me.She was a happy child,raised with a lot of love and understanding. More of this story coming soon
