Woman Critically Injured In Sunday Night Car Crash

The 83-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

 

A 24-year-old woman was critically injured after being hit by a car while crossing the intersection of Hearst Avenue and Spruce Street Sunday night.

The Oakland resident was transported by the Berkeley Fire Department to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition, according to a Berkeley Police Department news report released Monday morning.

The driver of the car was an 83-year-old woman, who stayed at the scene of the accident until police arrived. After speaking to the woman, officers arrested her on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, the report said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Fatal Accident Investigation Team.
