Making New Year's Resolutions as a Family

Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center says resolutions can be fun, and productive, for parents and kids

Making New Year's resolutions can be fun and productive for families, says Christine Carter, Ph.D., who writes and talks about raising happy kids for Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center.

In conversation with Rona Renner, R.N., of Childhood Matters, Carter says that parents can only support kids in their resolutions, not make those resolutions for the children. But parents can help their kids focus on what they would like to change in the coming year, and why.

It's helpful to talk over what worked well in the past year and use that as a springboard for change in the coming 12 months, she says.
